Calgary adventure
I am back home in Montana after our trip to the Calgary 70.3.
What a great event it was. What a great race (for me) it wasn't. Ahhh, such is life. Actually, I raced pretty well, the problem is that the competition keeps raising the bar and getting better and better. All in all, this is great for sport.
I have lots of things to be happy about:
I am injury free.
I am training well for Kona.
I have a great support network - Chris, my family, sponsors, Lance, Missoula friends, my pup Madison.
I love my job.
I get to travel to new places and meet all sorts of inspiring new people.
I am racing faster and stronger than I was last year.
Missoula, Montana is a little slice of heaven on earth.
Our trip to Calgary was great. We drove up through BC and stopped in Fernie for the night along the way. Really, British Columbia is quite amazing. Once in Calgary we were spoiled with a great homestay - Brad & Kath McMorris. Can you say chocolate cowboy hats on our pillows? I mean, come on!! They showed us the ropes of Calgary and got us pointed in all the right directions.
The inaugural Calgary 70.3 did not disappoint. The race course itself was nothing short of amazing. In fact, I felt quite at home all day long. The swim water was just like a Montana lake - clear and crisp! Onto the bike there was fresh mountain air, all sorts of wildlife, empty roads, and long rolling terrain. On the run the crowd support was great and the course was a challenge. I love challenges.
This week looks much like the past few weeks. A few days rest, and straight back into Ironman Hawaii work by Wednesday. Woah - that's tomorrow. I will be doing one more race - Lake Stevens 70.3 before taking a short holiday. Then, it is off to Kona in one month. Woooweeee.
