Getting 'er done
My theme for this last week was getting 'er done.
I got home from the East Coast on Monday. Montana saw all extremes of temperatures in the last week. We had near 90's early in the week, snow in the middle of the week, rivers that are now flooding, and I spent 6+ hours on my trainer in the past 48 hours due to rain. I must say, all things considered, Missoula has some of the best weather in Montana (I am serious!!) so things could have been much worse. I will take the 90's over the snow, though.
The first thing to get done was all of my workouts. I know that doesn't sound that hard considering it is my job... however, I really haven't been the same since Arizona. I have been dealing with a calf injury that won't leave me alone, so I was pleased to get in a long run of 13 miles, as well as a speed workout (or two). Thank goodness for ice, ibuprofen, massage, treadmills, and compression socks (no, I don't wear them in public)! I am near back to normal... but I still have a ways to go.
The next thing to get done was enjoy being at home. Chris and I went to the farmers market, for a ride on a scooter, we road tripped to the Patagonia Outlet in Dillon, MT., and I drank 4 lattes from the Break Espresso, yum! I also taught classes at the gym, made it to 5:15am swim practice every day, and got in some productive bike rides.
I also started and am almost done reading Paula Radcliff's book, My Story So Far. It might be one of the best books I have read in a while. It is interesting and comforting to read how another elite athlete feels and copes with life, training, and racing. I highly recommend it!
Other exciting things include getting boxes of Clif Bar products and a shiny new belt buckle. It fits right in with the Montana theme. Also, my best friend from high school ran her first marathon! Go Adria! We are planning on running NYC when we turn 30... watch out Lance Armstrong!
Sounds like I got it nearly all done to me!
Tommorow should be an exciting day: our 50m outdoor pool opens! I will also be taking the plunge into open water for my first open-water-in-Montana swim of 2008. I expect it to be freezing cold, my feet to go numb, and a hot cup of coffee when it is all said and done!
We are leaving on Thursday for the Boise 70.3. It should be a fun weekend. Those in attendance include my parents, Chris, about 20+ Montana friends that are racing, as well as many of my other triathlon friends. After that I am headed to San Diego to check out the new Scott Plasma. I can't wait!!
Here's to getting the work done!
